We Are Home!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Queen Bee @ 4:52 pm

We are back home safe and sound. What a great trip we had. First I loaded up some basic gear and flew up to Northern California with my two kids.

I scored some really cheap plane tickets that I told you about here.  For $25 one-way how could I pass up such a great offer? We were able to borrow a car from my in-laws and drive all over the place visiting family. After spending the night in Walnut Creek at my in-laws we visited my sister-in-law and her kids. Here I borrowed a pack n play for my baby and a crock pot for the dish I was making for Thanksgiving dinner.

We stayed at my Aunt’s house for three nights in Los Gatos and drove to the Santa Cruz mountain area to see other relatives. It even rained while we were there! That is so exciting for us because we live in the desert. I let Sam play out in the misty rain for a little bit.

Rachel was able to meet my grandmother on my dad’s side.

We saw my brother and his family and my father. Here is Sam hiding under the bed with his cousin:

Next was my grandmother’s house. She lives on 5 acres of redwood forest. Sam had so much fun climbing up the property. After we left, every time he talked to my husband on the phone Sam told him that we were looking for animals, but we couldn’t find any elephants. At the time I thought we were just looking for birds.

Next we drove up to Placerville and stayed at my uncle’s house for three nights. Here we went to the Folsom zoo with my sister and rode the train. Woo woo! The conductor took a great picture with my camera after adjusting all the settings on it. Apparently he teaches a photo taking class in addition to driving the train. The kids and I hung out with my mother and aunt here. This is my hometown area. We made a quick trip to Apple Hill for some pears, pumpkin butter and apple fritters. Mmmm.

After a week of being away from my husband I was very excited about the last leg of our trip. I drove back down to Walnut Creek and stayed at my grandmother-in-laws for three nights. My husband drove up and stayed with us those three nights. We had Thanksgiving at her house. She has such a great back yard for taking pictures. Here we are trying to take a nice Christmas photo. I am the only one with my eyes open. LOL. Don’t worry, that is not the one we will be using.

On the last day of our trip we had a joint 3 year birthday party for my son and his cousin. I was happy to be able to have my family come to the party. We live too far away from family to throw a party here.

Pictured here are my sisters, mother, me and my brother.

We had a great time visiting everybody. Everything went pretty smoothly. That is not to say that there were no tears along the way. Sam was very sad to leave cousin big boy Andrew’s house.

Shopping Trip 11/9/09

Rite Aid

Rite Aid 11/9/09

I was disappointed with my trip to Rite Aid. The cashier did not take the time to read the coupons I had and as a result I was not credited for the correct amounts. Most of my coupons were- buy this thing and get this other thing free. Shopping with a fussy baby and a lot of coupons makes it hard to pay close enough attention at the register. Despite that I did pretty well.

Subtotal: $40.73 (includes tax)

Less Coupons: $20.99

Total: $19.74

Less Rebate: $2.99

Net: $16.75

(I was shorted $6.98 in coupons, my net should have been $9.77)

Target

Target 11/9/09

Target has some great deals going on right now. The potato head santa was .99 and the 10 glade items will be a net overage of $5. I will likely be going back to Target this week for diapers and more glade products. I received a $5 off $75 coupon at the register. It is easy to get your subtotal to $75 when you are buy large boxes of diapers. The bananas, granola bars and rawhides were $6.86 and things I needed to buy, so it is like getting the rest of the stuff for free because my net for the purchase is $6.70!

Subtotal: $45.67

Less coupons: $23.97

Total: $21.70

Target Gift Cards Received: $10.00

Rebate: $5.00

Net: $6.70

CVS

CVS 11/9/09

Subtotal: $23.99 (after tax)

Less coupons: $11.50

Total: $12.49 (I paid with $6.99 ECB from last week and $5.50 cash)

ECBs Received: $15.00

Net: $2.51 overage

What Does Your Day Look Like?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Queen Bee @ 11:37 pm

Yesterday a friend of mine asked me how I spend my days. I thought it might be fun to give you a rundown of a random day in our household. As you can see, my life revolves around my kids:

4:45 am Baby wakes up crying. I go to her room, put her pacifier in her mouth, then lay down on the couch for a few minutes.

5:00 am make some coffee, check MyFrugalAdventures for any last-minute deals (I am headed out shopping today).

Son wakes up and we try to keep in him his room for as long as possible. How can he be up already? He went to bed at 9:30 last night!

5:30 am both kids are up now after each of them kept the other from getting back to sleep.

Feed the kids, grab last-minute coupons, start the dish washer and get dressed (so glad I showered last night!)

6:45 am Husband has left for work already and baby seems sleepy, so I  put her down for a little nap. I do my hair/makeup, cut my sons hair (yes, I said cut, and I bribed him with ice cream), rinse him off in the shower, fed son ice cream (yes, very early in the morning for ice cream) and pack the diaper bag for our outing.

Hair Cut

7:50 am Baby is waking up. Good timing I suppose. Grab a bottle out of the dishwasher that is almost done, it is on rinse cycle, close enough. Head over to CVS for some great deals.

8:40 am Done shopping but too early for our next appointment. Swing by the park for 10 minutes of play.

9:00 am Drop son off at Mrs. Jan’s for a play date. They made cookies and played with cars. Baby and I went to Rite Aid and then Target. Wow, Target has some really great promotions going on! I ran out of time to get what I wanted, but it will work out better to make a second trip this week anyway because some of the deals involve getting gift cards back.

10:30 am Pick up son and head home. Snack time. I make son sourdough bread with butter. This is his favorite food right now. While changing a very stinky diaper in the livingroom son asks for more bread. I tell him to grab another piece himself. I meant for him to grab the bread off the ceramic plate I made it on and place it onto his plastic plate. Um no. He grabbed the ceramic plate and tried to carry it to his seat. Our puppy, who weighs more than him, was jumping around trying to get the bread off the plate. I tried calling the puppy over to me, but it did not work out so well. CRASH!!! There goes the plate. And the puppy got the bread afterall. Of course she chose to eat the bread on the carpet, not the tile kitchen floor. Yes, there was butter on the bread already. Finally done with the diaper I put baby in her high chair with Cheerios and I am able to clean up the plate. Wow, the pieces spread all over the place! Then I feed her a granola bar for the first time.

Granola Bar

12:00 Wow, that all took a long time! Is it nap time yet? Time to clean up the baby. We all go out back and watch Sam play in the dirt. We watched the garbage truck empty our can and threw the ball for the puppy to fetch. When my son started eating dirt I knew it was time to come inside.

Sam Dirt

1:30 pm A change of clothes for my son, potty break, another stinky diaper for the baby, 5 goldfish, cup of ice water, two stories, lights out.

1:40 pm Heat up a cup of coffee and some lunch. I am pretty hungry. Another potty break for son, I am glad he made it to the toilet. Hopefully he will overlap his nap with the baby a little though, she is already asleep. Get Sam back into his room and do devotions.

2:30 pm After getting up several times I realize that today will be a no nap day for son day. Let him get out of his room. I try to keep him busy until Rachel gets up.

3:30 Rachel is up, we all go out back again to play in the dirt.

4:30 Start on dinner. Feed Rachel

5:30 Daddy is home! Dinner time. Hang out with Daddy time. I slip away to read my bible a little more.

Sammy

7:00 pm both kids are in bed. Phew. Clean up kitchen and make some hot chocolate. Time to work on a blogging, emails and considering another Target trip on Wednesday.

8:00 pm I have a date with my husband in front of the TV. Time to relax. Son is usually still up right now so it feels really late already.

Filed under: Uncategorized — Queen Bee @ 11:39 am

**Updated** The Tag Reading System is actually on sale for $39.99 and the coupons are $10 off manufacture coupon and $10 off Target coupon so the price is $19.99. The matchup for the $13.99 system is for Tag Jr.

There are lot of toy coupons and Target toy coupons available for printing. Couponing To Disney has a great list of matchups if you are interested in early Christmas shopping. I just might have to get the Tag Reading System for $13.99.

Thanks for the heads up Charlene.

Filed under: CVS — Queen Bee @ 8:25 pm

Thanks the Charlene for the heads up on a new coupon book at CVS. I was at CVS today and at the register I was asked if I wanted a free holiday gift guide. Inside there is a coupon for a $5 ECB when you spend $20. Ask for one at the register next time you shop at CVS.
